Martingale & Company began in 1976 out of the home of founders, Dan and Nancy Martin.
During the first 20 years of its existence, the company earned and maintained its
reputation for excellence, publishing quilting books under the leading brand name,
That Patchwork Place.
Then, in 1996, the company broadened its scope and published
in other areas as well. In addition to quilting, Martingale now publishes books on
several more crafts, including a highly successful line of knitting and crochet books.
The company has developed novelty lights, coasters and other gift items as well.

has prided itself working with the independent shop owners, forming partnerships
and special events to help these independent business people succeed. The “Super
Stitcher” program is one recent example that is designed to help shop owners sell
more books, more fabric, more often—by offering free product to consumers who meet
certain purchase criteria.
Several years ago, to ensure the continuation of the thriving
and dynamic business they founded, the Martins chose to sell the company to their
employees. In 2007, the company became 100% employee owned.
